So Does He Owe You?

You give him everything.

You give him your company, your time, your money.
You make sure you haven't ever offended him in any way, and act as the shoulder for him to cry on - or to complain to - when he's upset.
You shower him with gifts, and reward him with your company because well, obviously you think he deserves it.
You listen to his stories about his life in the past, no matter how godforsaken, and even those stories about his bitter love life.
Even if he tells you how he loves somebody so much and eventhough their hands have parted, their hearts are not willing to let go.

The whole time you're probably dreaming that he was talking about you - and just then a jolt of reality will hit you. That you're the one it's being told to, not told about.

You wish that everything that you do would make him realise how much you care, and how much you want him. And all you hope for is something good to bloom out of it.

But in the end, the question remains : Does he owe you everything?

Does he owe you the time and money spent?
Does he owe you a shoulder to cry on?
Does he owe you gifts and sincere company?
Does he owe you a willing ear for all your stories of how bitter your past is?

Does he owe you - care?

Here's the deal from how I see this. Looking at this rationally ... Yes. He does owe you every single thing you've given to him sincerely. And maybe even a little more. All those things I mentioned above are just the tip of this rocky, rocky mountain. Because it would be just the bitchiest not to give anything back. Spread the good karma, you know what I mean?

BUT. Does that seem at all sincere to you?

He's giving you back everything you gave him - matter for matter. Your gifts, your shoulder, your ear - will all be reciprocated in the most literal form, because well ... it's courtesy. You do something nice for me and I'll do it back to you. But this doesn't come from any core of the heart. He's basically throwing that Good Ball right back at you, waiting for your next serve. As long as that Good Ball keeps coming back, he's going to keep hitting it across. And when it stops - he'll just stop playing.

So it's really up to you. Would you rather live a dream and imagine that everything he's doing is because he genuinely cares for you? Or perhaps it's better to face reality and know that he isn't giving you any more than you gave him, and probably never will?

Go figure.
